These are the faces of full-time mothers who don’t speak the English language well, but who are here to teach their children and all children who attend our elementary school what they do know well. Their culture. This month is National Latino Heritage Month and as part of the cultural celebration, parents volunteer to perform dances and songs for each of the Spanish-speaking countries from Latin America.
And I realize as I see these lovely ethnic dresses that were handmade by there own funds for this school-wide program, its not about words or knowing the language. Its about a communicating a sense of pride, worth, beauty and expression that supersedes any language.
